Located on 120 beautiful wooded acres in the foothills of the Appalachians, Kirkwood by the River is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community near Birmingham, Alabama. Incorporated as Presbyterian Homes of Birmingham, Inc. and sponsored by Independent Presbyterian Church, it is open to all people regardless of church affiliation.

Our full continuum of care includes 69 Independent Living apartments, 24 Assisted Living units, 18 Specialty Care Assisted Living units on Kirkwood Lane and a 61 bed Skilled Nursing facility offering private pay and Medicare rehab.

Although we enjoy our quiet and scenic campus, we are just minutes away from medical facilities, shopping centers and cultural and social events.
